E-Safety

At Medina Primary School, pupils have access to a rich range of digital technology and online resources that extend and enhance their learning across the curriculum. We are committed to ensuring our pupils reap the full educational benefits of the digital world within a safe, secure, and well-managed environment.

Digital Education at Medina

Children are set clear objectives when using the internet and access digital materials under the direct guidance of their class teachers and support staff.

Through our computing curriculum and personal development learning, Medina pupils are explicitly taught how to:

  • Use technology safely, responsibly, and respectfully.

  • Keep personal information private.

  • Recognise warning signs and know where to go for help when concerned about online content or contact.

  • Apply our STOP, BLOCK, TELL rule if they encounter anything upsetting online.

Pupil activity in the classroom is closely monitored by staff. Additionally, daily automated reports are reviewed by our Online Safety Lead. Any concerns are addressed immediately in accordance with our Safeguarding, Anti-Bullying, and Behaviour policies, with key outcomes reported to our Governing Body.

Filtering & Safeguarding Controls

To ensure children only access content appropriate to their age and learning needs:

  • Robust Filtering: Medina Primary School utilises advanced web filtering software to block unsafe, harmful, or inappropriate content across all school devices and networks.

  • Active Monitoring: We continuously monitor digital activity across the school network. Any potential safeguarding flags or policy breaches are escalated directly to a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) without delay.

Working in Partnership with Families

We believe that keeping children safe online requires a strong partnership between school and home. We support our Medina families by providing regular online safety tips in our school newsletters, hosting parent workshops, and sharing updated digital guidance.

We actively signpost parents and carers to trusted national resources for advice on managing screen time, setting parental controls, and navigating social media:

  • CEOP Thinkuknow: Practical advice for parents, carers, and children from the National Crime Agency's Child Exploitation and Online Protection command.

  • Childnet International: Guides, videos, and conversation starters to help families talk about internet safety at home.

  • NSPCC & O2 Online Safety Hub: Clear guidance on popular apps, online games, social networks, and setting up parental controls on home devices.

  • Internet Matters: Age-specific guides and tailored advice for keeping children safe on tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles.
